Saponification is the reaction from mixing these oils with an alkaline base – commonly this is Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide. This is a centuries-old process, but large companies cut corners and use petroleum products to make soap faster and cheaper. All of our oils are 100% Indonesian vegetable oils and we only make small batches of soap the old fashioned way – we leave in the naturally occurring glycerin.

Glycerin the Natural Humectant

Glycerin is a humectant, which means it has the ability to attract moisture in the air to the skin. Most of the soap available on the market has the glycerin from the manufacturing process removed and sold as a separate product for expensive lotions and creams. Java Scents soap is glycerin soap with 100% of the naturally occurring glycerin left in. That’s why it is gentle enough to use on your face but still effective for your whole body.
